So... I was sitting around today, doing nothing, and saw the breaking news about Ft Hood. I immediately started thinking about all of the people I know there and kind of started freaking out. While I'm talking to my best friend from Temple, my mom calls and tells me that Lauren is at the doctors office and they think she could have H1N1. Really?? I felt so useless. Here I am, utterly bored and doing nothing when I could be taking care of my sister or all of the wounded victims. Not a good feeling let me tell you. I then started trying to think more rational. Lauren has her amazing husband Justin (and Mom in a couple of hours) to take care of her. As for the victims, they have one of the most amazing trauma centers in the south, Scott and White. Of course I wanted to be there in the middle of all the chaos with my S&W family, but those nurses and doctors are some of the best ones I know. I am so proud of them. I heard from numerous people that "yes, it was chaos but we kicked butt today." I guess I said all of this to say, prayer is the only thing I can do. It should have been my first instinct to pray but my human nature took control and I wanted to "fix" things. Seriously? like I can fix things.

Parker Wade Davis
On October 25, my sister Lauren had her first baby. Let me just say that she is my hero. Because Lauren had borderline hypertension, her doctor decided to induce her a few days before her due date. Lauren and Justin checked into the hospital on Sat night to start getting her body ready for induction. At 6am Sat, they started her Pitocin. And... she didn't start pushing until about 9:30pm. At 10:29pm on Sat Oct 25, Parker Wade Davis was born. He was 9lb 10oz and 21in. Ya, he was healthy. Lauren did great... and Justin :). She was calm, patient, and sweet all day. Even after all the trauma of a vaginal birth, she was up and walking around the next day and never complained about pain. It was so fun for me to be her "personal nurse". Precious little Parker is going to be my new obsession, so be ready for a lot of Parker posts :) I am a very proud aunt.
